A Kern County Sheriff’s deputy shot a pit bull after it attacked him in the 27000 block of Anderson St. in Boron on Sunday night. The dog was struck at least one time in the head, ceasing its attack and retreating back into the yard that came from.

Sheila Farr was bitten in the face, arm and leg shortly before 6 a.m. as she handed the phone to her stepdaughter, Janice. “I pulled him off of her three times and she started hollering,” said a distraught Janice Farr. “The more she hollered, the more he went on her.” The 100-pound pit bull and chow mix named Monk was very protective of the family, she said.

Anthony will need more surgeries to repair nerve damage in his face, but his mother said he's up and playing. The pit bull, named Oreo, belonged to a family friend.
