If you count the pit-mix mastiffs as pit bull types, that’s 91% killed by attacking pit bull types. Pit types are only about 5% of the entire dog population.

The man who ran into traffic kept pit bulls himself. He knew perfectly well what the two stranger pit bulls that were chasing him would do if they caught him, so he preferred to risk a swift death by oncoming car.

I often wonder why fighting breeds are not considered dangerous weapons. I can set my 870 12ga. shot gun near the back door the mail comes no one gets hurt, the neighbor's children play no one gets hurt, the lady down the street walks by with Her dog no one gets hurt. Not once did the gun load its self and chase someone down and kill or severely hurt anyone. However humans have bred dogs designed to kill and maul and many act as it is just an accident when they maul and kill !! (posted by " D-Man")

This July 7th will mark 1 year since Kayli...e suffered a Horrific unprovoked attack by Her Father's Pit Bull during His court ordered visit. Kaylie stepped out their sliding glass door to ask Her Grandmother for some dinner . Just steps into the back yard the pit bull named Andy knocked Kaylie to the ground attacking Her little face. It took 3 full grown men to hold and kill the 80lb pit bull with a steak knife just to get the pit to release Her face. Neighbors down the block could Her Kaylie's screams for help. Kaylie was flown by heli copter to UC Davis in Sacramento. My Daughter (Kaylie's Mom) received a call from Kaylie's Dad, saying Kaylie was attacked by His dog. When My Daughter asked if She would be ok. The answer was panic and uncertain. I just finished irrigating Our hay farm and the phone call came screaming and crying I could get little more than hurry its Kaylies go to Uc Davis. Uc Davis is a hour drive, not knowing if She would be alive or not I made it in 25 mins. 15 mins behind Kaylies arrival. I stopped the car in the middle of the driveway and ran to the ER desk telling the staff who I was and asking if Kaylie was going to live. The answer was yes but the look on their face was something of concern. They rushed Me back where Kaylie and Kiersten ( My Daughter) was. I cant lie I was shocked at all the blood and the fact Kaylie's cheek was not bitten but it was gone I could see Her cheek bone. I could only reach deep and hug Kiersten while I moved to Kaylie's side. I held Kaylie's hand and I told Her how much She is loved and kept talking to Her so the Doctor could do what He needed I even promised to get Her a horse.The Doctor moved Her face pieces around trying to get a picture of how He could somehow put Her face back together without the missing pieces. Over 100 stiches later at the hands of a very caring Doctor and staff they finished the first surgery. Now after the second surgery She is still a Beautiful Survivor. I tell this story and speak out in hopes others are listening and will choose safer pets. My Family is blessed Our little one survived it breaks My heart to see the many Families that have had a different outcome. DAYTON, Texas -- Two KHOU crews were just feet away from a Liberty County deputy when he shot and killed a dog.
The Rottweiler-Mastiff mix was responsible for a deadly mauling on Monday.
Deputies say the dog had been a stray until a woman in the Woodland Hills subdivision began feeding him about two weeks ago.
63-year-old Linda Oliver called authorities after the dog attacked her, but it was too late.
“I love my dogs, but something like that happens to a human being, it needs to be put down,” said neighbor Steve Wilson. Deputies shot at the dog named “Bruiser” at Oliver’s home on Monday. Deputies say the dog charged at them and managed to escape into some nearby woods.
Deputies had been actively searching for the dog ever since.
Several near captures ended with the dog running off into the distance. On Tuesday night, around 6:30 p.m., it all came to an end on County Road 648.
Two KHOU crews covering the story followed a deputy to that location.
Less than a minute later, the dog ran down the street and deputies followed in hot pursuit.
A Liberty County Deputy, crouched in a ditch, killed the animal with two shots fired from a 12-gauge shotgun.
KHOU cameras rolled as the shots went off, and a deputy officially confirmed out loud that the dog was dead.
“I think it’s a tremendous relief off of everyone. I have gotten numerous calls from parents who have small children and small pets,” said Capt. Ken DeFoor with Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
DeFoor says the animal was so dangerous he left deputies with no choice.
“Had he been brought down with a tranquilizer and captured, we would’ve still had to send his remains for rabies testing,” explained Capt. DeFoor.
The animal remains are now on the way to a lab.

The victim was Arianna Jolee Merrbach, age 5, who was at a relative's home when the incident happened, Von Lutcken said.
Herbie Christmas with Florence County Environmental Services says the dog was full grown and belonged to an aunt of the girl.
He also said at the time of the attack the dog was tied up.
"The animal in question was on a chain, and we do have a tethering ordinance in Florence County, which prohibits that activity under Florence County's section six," Christmas said.
A neighbor, Lulu Waddell, said that in addition to the dog that attacked the girl, the aunt also had another pitbull and a smaller dog. All three of the dogs were taken from the family, Waddell said.
Arianna's body will be sent to MUSC in Charleston on Wednesday for an autopsy. The incident is being investigated by the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
The dog involved in the fatally was brought to Florence County Environmental Services and was euthanized, officials said. The dog's brain was sent to state DHEC lab for analysis, according to officials.

This is a letter written by the mother of Seleena Wickward to the Parents Against Dog Chaining, about her daughter, Saleena's vicious attack by a neighbor's pit bull. This is a powerful letter that should be read by all.
Saleena is a young child VICTIM of a vicious pit bull attack that left her severely injured and disfigured for life. 

"I noticed on your map, Utah doesn't show any children injured or killed. I am Saleena Wickward's mother & I can testify that in 2010 alone, 3 children just in our area were injured. 

People always have a reason for why that particular dog attacked. Let's be honest, the majority of severely injured children or children mauled TO DEATH comes from the jaws of a Pit. I am often accused of being a "Pit Bull Hater" which humors me. I raised American Pit Bulls, owning a total of 51 over the years. The problem that plagues me is that there IS NOT ALWAYS A REASON THAT AN ANIMAL ATTACKS! Chico (the dog that mauled my daughter) was extremely well cared for. He wasn't left on a chain for hours at a time. He wasn't abused, neglected, taunted, mistreated or anything else that one might think. That dog was taken for walks every day. He spent a lot of his mornings & early afternoons inside with his owners & had ample outside time as well. There wasn't one single thing that anyone could say the owners of Chico didn't do. 

So now what? While hundreds of people contacted us when Saleena was initially injured, nobody contacts us about it anymore besides her doctors. Nobody sees the now 7 year old child plagued with nightmares, self image issues, & PTSD . Nobody calls to see why Saleena didn't show up to picture day at school. No one has sympathy for us when we went without a vehicle for 3 months because my once pristine credit is now unworthy of a loan for a piece of paper. No one understands when Saleena's older brother has anxiety & panic attacks when anything even suggests a threat to his younger sisters. Not one person gives an iota of a care when four children won't even go to a public park, pool, or grocery store without the fear of God inside of them at all times. This being after almost 2 years of counseling.

Yet, the support for proper care of animals & Pro Pit Bull banter continues. Like a slap in the face, there's a new commercial, website, or facility asking for donations to save the animals, Pits in particular, almost everyday it seems. 

WHEN DO WE START SAVING OUR OWN CHILDREN?! When did animals start ranking above our race...our futures...& the little people we bring into this world that look to us for protection?! Saleena's accident brought out the support for pits more than anything. While a child was stuck in a hospital bed, with her hair being rubbed off the one side of her skull due to the severity of injuries encompassing her head... fighting infection...without the ability to open her eyelids due to the excessive swelling and bruising...having lucid nightmares...withdrawing from morphine...and all of this after having her face pieced back together with glue, stitches, staples, a metal plate, a screws. Her family in a state of emotional/physical/mental perdition, unsure of their loved one's outcome, & unable to be together to support & sooth one another not only during that time but for months to come along with more heartbreaking surgeries, scares, and distress at levels in which some will never even fathom... All of these occurrences & ANYONE was concerned for the dog's situation or fate?!? What?!

It makes me absolutely sick that anyone would donate to any of the "animal support" facilities when there are families like us out there paying astronomical amounts to try to save their child's life, put a face or limb back together for them, & pray that somehow a miracle will happen to save us from the poverty that an animal's mouth plagued our lives with. 

We eat cows, chickens, pigs, and other animals but chose a canine's life over or own children.

Honestly, how can anyone be confused as to why our communities grow more corrupt generation by generation, or what we're doing wrong by our children to have our crime rates rise, children shooting up schools, or addictions forming at younger ages continually?

No one seems afraid to stand up for the animals. In my opinion not only should they be afraid, but ashamed. Ignorance plagues our country like an outbreak of Ebola Zaire. Then to add salt to a wound, we publicize the "animals rights over children's safety/lives" for the entire globe to see. There were actually comments on the articles about Saleena's accident saying that "the dog was in his yard (mind you there was no fence & a dog run built having never been used) the little girl got what she deserved". I researched to the highest extent possibly in desperation to find the sadistic tormented mind behind those words. I wanted nothing more than that person to say those words while showing his/her face. There is no way that person had children. I'd love to sit with those people & show them every photo of Saleena taken due to this dog. The pre surgery photos would cause almost anyone to have haunting visions and nightmares for the rest of their days. 

I could go on and on from the $ worth put on a little girl's face to every single domino of our lives that fell all aftermath of "man's best friend."

I pray that we quit breeding ignorant & self destructive tendencies into our children. When will there be enough lives taken, enough innocent children sacrificed? I wonder how many "animal rights activists" could voice those same opinions after seeing their child shredded like the first course of a starved lioness. 

I wish it was as simple as changing the way we confine our pets. Instead, our communities stand & support this issue as our children are one by one traumatized, brutalized, & demonized. You never hear these stories where the dog owner says they knew there was a problem. The first time so often being the only time due to the severity.

No family should have to feel this pain. Prayers and healing wishes for this family . Names are left out to Protect them during this time of healing............................................................. Today, I want to scream, I am tired of cryring. I want to scream into the face of the owner of the ugliest, meanest , Pitt Bull from the dark depths of hell. The one who attacked a beautiful... little girl, only 8 years old. Left deep scars, on her body. Long and deep, so deep it almost got to her kidney. Can this man even imagine the pain, this child went through laying on that ground? No, he didn't care. Every day that I try to let it go, the next day is worse. Yesterday, sitting in the car with me, as we started to get out, she looks down at the LONG deep scar, where it also mauled the inside of her thigh. She was worried about a knot that was forming and looking huge. Scar tissue, I explained, and as she tugged to cover it with her shorts, I laid my head on the steering wheel and cried. Told her I had a sudden headache. No, Granny, came a little voice, from her five year old brother who witnessed the attack. "It's the dog, now he is breaking your heart". "Cause we see it every day, when we look at XXXXXX." And I dried my eyes, and we prayed God would help us. As I got out of the car I thought, how much damage that one day, that a man who felt the need to make himself look macho caused, with a dog that should have been outlawed in the entire United States.

When 6-year-old Nephi Selu was attacked, mauled and killed by a pit bull (or pit bull mix) in Union City, the pit bull critics and the defenders already had their scrip...ts ready to go.

Most of us said what we always say when a pit bull mauls someone — that breed is dangerous. Dr. Alan Beck of Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine put it well when I interviewed in 2005 after a “friendly” pit bull mauled an 88-year-old woman who had interacted with the dog without incident countless times.

“We are not surprised when a pointer starts pointing,” he said. “Or when my dachshund starts digging. Everyone expects that. But if we start talking about a low tolerance for pain and a propensity to attack, it’s wrong.”

But we know the defenders will soon be in full cry. It’s not the dog’s fault, they’ll say, it is the owner. The child should never have put himself in that position. There were other factors we don’t know about.

Someone once compared the pit bull apologists to the National Rifle Association. They have a prepared script, they are vociferous and they are tireless. They’d love to get into a debate with you because it goes on and on and on. They send three e-mails to your one. They have self-serving statistics from advocacy web sites that they can quote for hours.

But here’s the puzzler. They are also often incredibly, uncontrollably angry. All of us in the news business take on the pit bull issue from time to time and we all have stories of threats — “Someone needs to stop you,” was the most recent I got — and warnings. They scream, they insult, and they stoop to racist, offensive language.

But someone died.

A child in this case. An elderly woman in another. In San Francisco in 2005 a woman left her 12-year-old son, Nicholas Faibish, in the basement with two pit bulls. While the parents were away the dogs were put in a room with the door propped shut with a shovel.
When the mother returned her son had been mauled to death. It was, she insisted in an interview with me, a complete surprise.
“My kids got along great with (the dogs),” Maureen Faibish said. “We were never seeing any violent tendencies.”
It happens over and over and it seems there’s never any change or consequence. The city of Denver passed “breed specific legislation” in 1989, targeting pit bulls and dogs with “the major characteristics of one.”
Miami did the same that year, banning pit bulls, and it has held up. Last year a ballot initiative to repeal the ban lost by a resounding 63-36 percent.
Passing an ordinance like that in San Francisco would be hard. But more than that it would be unpleasant. Although the Miami vote indicates that the majority of ordinary citizens aren’t buying the happy chat about pit bulls, few want to take on the insults and anger of the fanatics.
So, apparently, we will stick with what we have — periodic maulings and death, followed by arguments that go nowhere.
And pit bulls roam the streets, wait in back yards and make headlines every time they maul or kill.
And when that happens, pit bull advocates always say the same thing: This was a complete surpriseSee More

Union City police identified the boy as Nephi Selu, who lived in Dixon, and w...as staying with relatives on Elizabeth Way. That's where he was playing with the dog - described as a pit bull type - on Monday about 11:30 a.m. when he was attacked and bitten on the head by the dog, police said. They added that he had been "actively playing" with the dog and may have tried to climb on the dog's back.

Felony charges were filed by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, May 21, against Cheryl Morrow of Barstow, California, as a result of a bizarre series of events on Sunday night, including an alleged attack by one of her four Pit Bulls on a juvenile at Barstow Junior High School, the Desert Dispatch reports.
Morrow, 51, faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and owning a mischievous animal which causes great bodily injury, according to court records. She did not enter a plea during her arraignment.

My boyfriend Greg had a pitbull named Bexar for 6 in a half years. He raised him from a pup and Bexar was a VERY well behaved dog and listened to everything Greg would tell him. He and I got together over 2 years ago, moved in with eachother and Bexar came too. I instantly fell in love with Bexar. He was my "sweet boy". Would give u kisses for hours, even smiled at us everytime we walked in the door. I got pregnant in April 2011 and gave birth to our son Feb. 2012. Everyone in my family was very concerned about Bexar. We INSISTED that he would never hurt anyone, ever! (a person that is. Cats and other animals were a different story). Our son’s name is Trenton. Bexar was GREAT with Trenton. (as we just knew he would be). Trenton just started crawling in September 2012. We would let him crawl over to Bexar, pat him on the head, play with his ears, let Bexar give him kisses, ect. Bexar would even sleep in front of his crib. He had been around kids his whole life. Family, nieces and nephews, friends kids of all ages. Saturday November 10th, 2012 my mom came to my house to hang out and visit and brought my little cousin. (he is 5). Gavin has stayed with us MANY times and always loved to play with Bexar. Gavin was there all day playing with everyone, including Bexar. A few more people came over (probably about 10 total). Everyone was in the backyard socializing and Greg and I were inside trying to put Trenton to sleep. The backdoor was open and we hear everyone start SCREAMING. LOUD. Bexar lunged at Gavin, right infront of everyone and he had him by the face. There was about 8 people around, in arms reach. This fact is very crucial, bc I have talked to MANY people about this and a lot of the times they say that they would never leave their children “alone” with the dog. Gavin was far from being alone when this attack happened. It took 4 grown men to try and get Bexar off of him and they still couldn’t do it. Greg ran out there and pried Bexars mouth off of Gavins face and we are very blessed and grateful that Gavin is still with us today.
Gavin was rushed to the hospital, where he was transported to Texas Children’s due to his injuries being very serious. He has had MULITPLE surgeries on his face and jaw and will need more throughout the years. Bexar barely missed his temple, barely missed his eyeball, and barely missed the main artery in his neck. Greg and I took Bexar and had him put down that night.
We felt very strongly that Bexar would NEVER do this. EVER. We had been through MANY arguments about "it's all how you raise them" ect. I know a lot of you do feel like it is how you raise them and my goal is only to educate you a little bit more about the Breed in hopes that such a tragedy does not happen to one of your loved ones like it did us. I would not wish the pain that our family has gone through on my worst enemy, and most importantly the pain and suffering that it has put on our sweet Gavin.

HARLEYVILLE, S.C. -- An 80-year-old South Carolina double-amputee has died from his injuries after he was dragged from his wheelchair and attacked by four dogs, authorities said Tuesday.
Carlton Freeman of Harleyville was driving his motorized wheelchair on May 8 when he was attacked, said Maj. John Garrison, a spokesman for the Dorchester County Sheriff's Department.
An incident report said Freeman told authorities that he was pulled from his wheelchair during the attack in the community about 50 miles northwest of Charleston. He said dogs were biting him and pulling on his clothes.
Coroner Chris Nesbit said Tuesday that Freeman, who had both legs amputated at the knee from an injury years ago, died Sunday of the injuries in the dog attack.
"Upon my examination of Mr. Freeman, it is a wonder that this gentleman was able to hang on as long as he did," Nesbit said in a statement. "He had bites and lacerations from his legs to the top of his head. This is very sad story, but even worse that Mr. Freeman was basically helpless to the attack, due to being a bi-lateral amputee.

These Dogs Do Not Have To Be Trained To Kill They Have Been Bred To Kill !!

So far this year the pit bull type dog has killed 12 of the 13 fatal dog attack victims in the U.S. All of these deaths in a span of only 121 days . On average someone is killed by a pit bull type dog every 10 days. How can anyone say these dogs are no different than other dogs. 12 out of 13 deaths by pit bull type dogs. Nielson Elementary students and friends of Ryan Maxwell planted a Thornless Hawthorn outside of the boy’s classroom on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. In front of the tree a stone has been placed dedicated to Ryan.
The school plans on adding flowers to the memorial next week.
“Ryan meant a lot to the school and his friends,” said school secretary, Rhonda Callahan. “He had gone to our school since kindergarten and he had a lot of good friends at our school and was just a great kid.”
A formal dedication ceremony for the memorial tree will take place on Sunday, June 9, 2013.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs each year, and one in five dog bites results in injuries that require medical attention. There are ways to make dog bites less likely and to help prevent children from being bitten by dogs.

Teach children the following basic safety tips and review them regularly:
Be aware of breed danger.
Don't approach an unfamiliar dog.
Don't scream or run from a dog.
Remain still when approached by an unknown dog.
If knocked over by a dog, roll into a ball and lie still.
Don't play with a dog unless an adult is present.
Avoid direct eye contact with a dog.
Don't disturb a dog that is sleeping, eating or caring for puppies.
Don't pet a dog without allowing it to see and sniff you first.
Also, teach children how to pet dogs. Before touching the animal, tuck their fingers into a loose fist and let the dog smell their hand first. Then, bring the hand up from under the dog's head. Dogs view hands coming down on them from above the head as potentially dangerous.
