A 5-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull terrier


ALBANY, Ga. -- A 5-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull terrier Wednesday as she was playing with her friends near 407 Lockett Station Road, Albany police officials said.#According to Albany Police Department spokesperson Phyllis Banks, the children ran from the dog, which had escaped from a nearby fenced area.
#The girl, who identity has not been released, fell and was attacked by the dog, receiving injuries to her head. She was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment. The extent of injuries were unknown Wednesday night.
#Banks said the owner of the dog, whose name was not disclosed, has been charged with animal at large and for not having a rabies tag. The dog was taken to The Albany Humane Society and placed in quarantine, where it is to remain for 10 days, she said.
